New Anglia University is introducing structured autopsy observation sessions as part of the practical teaching of its pre-clinical MD curriculum. These sessions are designed to support and reinforce students’ learning in anatomy and pathology by linking theoretical teaching to real practice.

The sessions will take place at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Anguilla and will be conducted under the supervision of Dr Shubhakar Paul, an internationally recognised forensic pathologist with more than 23 years of professional experience.

Beginning in February 2026, New Anglia University students will have the opportunity to observe and participate in supervised autopsy sessions, gaining first-hand insight into forensic and pathological investigation.

These activities form part of the University’s existing teaching framework and are intended to complement students’ scheduled pre-clinical studies. The sessions will be organised in coordination with the academic timetable and integrated into relevant teaching modules. The educational objective is to help students better understand how pathological changes affects organs and tissues in real clinical contexts.

Dr Shubhakar Paul holds MBBS, MD, and DNB qualifications and is a Member of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine (UK). He is licensed to practise in the UK, Barbados, and India and has conducted thousands of post-mortem examinations throughout his career. His professional background includes work with Police Scotland and several NHS Trusts.
